Public Transport in Bali

It is considered quite difficult to find public transport in Bali. There is no railway, so there is no train. There is bus service provided by the local authority, but only  a few units operate with no regular schedule. While local residents usually own motorbikes or cars, tourist count on car or motorbike rental, bus from a travel agent or taxi.

Here are some tips for you if you pick one of these transport options:

1. Car or motorbike rental
   If possible, rent a car from an authorized company. Usually this company also has insurance. But if you have no choice to rent a car from personal, at least take a recommendation from someone you know (it is better if recommended by your hotel or your local friend).
2. Taxi
   If possible, take a taxi from Bali taxi. It is a leading taxi company in Indonesia and they have standard for all their taxis. Ask the driver to use the taxi meter. In some areas of Bali, you may find difficult to get Bali taxi, so try to get the other official taxi (the cab has sign and the driver has official ID card). If it is not possible to use taxi meter, ask for the fix price.
3. Motor taxi
   If you just go alone and don't know much about the direction in Bali, you may want to try Bali taxi motor. Basically it is a taxi service by motorbike with a rider, but this is owned by an established company. You can call their office to ask for pick-up service and to take you wherever you may go. 4. Shuttle service
   This is usually operated by private companies. There is a good one operated by Perama Tour going to some popular destinations in Bali.
5. Ubud Taxi
   Basically it is somekind of shuttle service serving mostly Ubud area with fixed rates. Visit the official site
6. Others
   In Kuta, you can find a kind of shuttle service serving the route from Kuta beach to nearby area, such as Kuta central parking. But the car is "open-air" (with no window) and can be fully loaded especially in high season.
   There are also some mini-station cars that function as public transport serving Denpasar area, but we cannot predict the departure or arrival time, and the worst is they sometimes take unusual routes.

I think the most convenient way is to ask your agent to arrange all of your needs while you're in Bali, including your transport. Have a nice ride!
